512×512 OCS Panel with US Conec ELiMENT® MDC Connectors

March 2026

Triple-Stone has moved the front panel of its 512 × 512 OCS (TS-OCS-HD series) to US Conec ELiMENT® MDC connectors. All 1,024 fibers of the switching matrix now terminate on the front of a single 6U chassis, without spreading the switch across additional rack units.

Why the front panel sets the limit

An optical circuit switch scales by port count, and every port is a physical fiber that has to reach the front panel. A 512 × 512 matrix needs 1,024 terminations in one chassis. With duplex LC adapters, panel area — not the MEMS engine — is what caps the platform: the adapters simply run out of room, and the cable bundle in front of the rack becomes hard to route and service.

MDC: more than 3× the density of duplex LC

The USCONEC MDC 4-port adapter holds four MDC connectors in a footprint that previously served far fewer fibers, which is what makes a 1,024-fiber panel practical:

What it changes on the 512 × 512 platform

The switching core is unchanged — this is a connectivity upgrade that lets the platform be deployed at its full port count in a 6U space:

Availability

The MDC front panel is available as a configuration option on the 512 × 512 OCS; LC-based panels remain available for existing deployments. Evaluation units, port-map drawings and MDC patch-cord assemblies — including MPO/MT and MDC cordage built in-house — can be quoted together with the switch.
